DOX Center for Contemporary Art, Poupětova 1, Prague 7

The exhibition The Comfort of Things at the DOX Center for Contemporary Art in Holešovice, Prague, offers for the first time an insight into the Nobel laureate Orhan Pamuk’s visual, conceptual and photographic work, which is evidence of Pamuk’s lifelong interest in the relationship between literature and fine art. The exhibition is also dedicated to his relationship with Istanbul, the city in which he has spent all 72 years of his life. Antique paintings and objects that Pamuk assembles here, are not intended to paint an accurate picture of the past. Instead, the artist uses these artifacts to say something about the nature and structure of our contemporary lives.

In relation to the name of the exhibition at Dox “The comfort of things”, we quote the author “The streets have always offered me comfort too. As if they could answer my sadness and loneliness or help me sort out my thoughts….When I was born, Istanbul had two and a half million inhabitants. Today, it has 17 million people. And I have been observing this development my whole life.” Aktualně CZ
