On February 11th, the National Gallery exhibition “Petr Brandl: The Story of a Bohemian” is coming to an end. The exhibition focuses on one of the most important Baroque artists, Petr Brandl, born in Prague in 1668. You will see impressive altarpieces from Czech and Moravian churches -specially restored for the occasion-, portraits of nobles, mythological scenes and self-portraits. Visitors will also see newly discovered works by Brandl for the very first time. According to the exhibition’s curator, Andrea Steckerová, the inventive concept of the exhibition is based on telling two intertwining stories: “the story of an exceptional oeuvre and of an equally exceptional life, for which we have an unprecedented amount of archival evidence, portraying Brandl as a man who rejected social and professional conventions and as an artist for whom creative and personal freedom was paramount.”
