By Sandra Hill (UK)

The Evening Cinema Group started in the summer of 2017 by Sandra Hill, a British expat who has a passion for watching films. The group meets monthly at a cinema that is showing a newly released movie. The cinema location and size varies so it is always an adventure to go to the movies!

Sandra, the group leader, reviews the extensive cinema locations in Prague to find the right date and time of the film we want to view. The details are communicated about 5 days in advance to IWAP members. One hidden treasure we have discovered is the Kino Atlas near Florenc but we have also visited Bio OKO, CinemaCity, Lucerna, Pilot and Cinestar. Prague has a range of small cinemas and multiplexes. We watch films in English with Czech subtitles.

Sometimes we go for a drink or bite to eat after the cinema and discuss the film we have just viewed. This is a great group for members who would like to see a film and prefer to go in a group.

Cinema has come a very long way since the first 5 second movie of the late 1890s of a man sneezing! It is a wonderful outlet that continues to surprise us with all the talent from actors to the production team skills that create some amazing movies.

During the pandemic of 2020 and early 2021, sadly this group has not been able to meet up due to the cinemas all being closed, but we have posted some film and series recommendations on the Facebook IWAP Interactive page to stay connected and one day we will be able to meet again and continue with this popular social activity.
