Masopust, the Tuesday before the beginning of Lent, is also known around the world as Carnival, Mardi Gras, Shrove Tuesday or Fat Tuesday. Carnival is celebrated with feasting and fun throughout the world during the few days before the beginning of Lent and culminating on the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday as it is customary for Christians during Lent to fast until Easter. This year Lent begins in March however, here in the Czech Republic, the celebrations start late February. Small villages to various areas of Prague celebrate Masopust.
