On a very busy tram street, centrally located just off Wenceslas Square, quietly tucked away behind 400-year-old Baroque doors and beautiful façade is Styl & Interier Café – Bistro. It is your calm oasis in the center of Prague that offers a beautiful garden in the warmer months, a winter garden and a cozy interior atmosphere in the cooler seasons.
Take a moment to recall a special childhood memory. Lucie Dudáková, owner of Styl & Interier, shared a very special childhood moment during our meeting. Lucie recalls a trip to Prague with her mother where she remembers seeing the beautiful Baroque exterior on Vodičkova street. She recalls wondering what was behind the stately doors. Now imagine how she must have felt when opening those same doors 30 years later to uncover a unique space that is now Styl & Interier Café – Bistro.
Lucie Dudáková, an exceptional interior designer, re-discovered the Styl & Interier space in 2013. She desired to open an interior design shop in the center of Prague. The business started simply with an e-shop and the location on Vodičkova. The extensive selection of interior elements was welcomed in Prague and the business took off quickly.
Many of Lucie’s clients conveyed how wonderful the shopping experience would be if they could linger over cake and coffee. Lucie listened carefully to her clients. The café aspect of Styl & Interier started with a simple coffee machine and a carrot cake. Over the years the menu has expanded to simple salads, quiche and cakes. As the demand grew, the kitchen was expanded to accommodate for more food preparation and the kitchen is at its largest feasible size for the space available.
What can you expect to experience at Styl & Interier Café – Bistro? The house dating back from the 13th century, has been rebuilt several times. Today, you will be greeted by a stately 2-story unique baroque style exterior, built by Baroque architect Kilian Ignác Dientzenhofer. The building stands out amongst the taller neighboring houses due to the unique exterior features that will draw you into the building. You will enter through a vaulted passageway that will lead you to the entrance to Styl & Interier.
Historically, the interior of the building was always used as some form of an atelier. Primarily artists and sculptures used the space over the years. The interior remains as the original with the same wood floor, walls and windows. Slight variations of the interior to accommodate the kitchen is the extent of the renovations of the house since the original design. Added to the back of the house is welcoming winter garden that is thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.
The extensive garden at the back of the house was used in various ways by the owners of the building. In the garden’s latest years, it was used by a Kindergarten. The garden underwent extensive refurbishment, including the removal of soil to level it with the entrance to the building and revitalization of the garden walls. In the refurbishment of the garden, by Lucie and her family, the kindergarten toys were uncovered, as well as, the toy box that is still used today by Styl & Interier. You will have the distinct pleasure of sitting under trees that are over 100 years old, including a Japanese cherry tree, and believed to have been planted by Max Urban, a famous architect that lived in the house. In the middle of the garden is a gazebo that accommodates customers throughout the spring, summer and autumn seasons.
Styl & Interier offers a very modest interior design shop at their location on Vodičkova. Dutch inspiration influences much of the items for sale in the shop at the café or at the interior design e-shop. Lucie will commission large interior design projects still today. She has moved away from smaller projects so she can maintain a focus on the café-bistro and her family.
As any young child minded by their Grandmother, Lucie started cooking at a very young age. Her grandmother was a professional chef and was always experimenting in the kitchen. Lucie fondly recalls the time spent rolling cookie dough prior to Christmas with her grandmother. This influence had come full-circle to today. Where Lucie is instrumental in creating new food dishes and cakes with the head chef. Lucie is very modest in her involvement in the business, she oversees every little detail, including when a new food item will be placed on the menu.
You will find the highest food quality at Styl & Interier. The priority is to in-season, locally sourced vegetables, fruits, herbs and meats. The menu offering starts off with breakfast continues on to lunch and rounds out with dinner. They offer a daily menu to choose from as well. The menu is comprehensive to accommodate every appetite including vegetarian and upon notification, vegan. Styl & Interier offers an extensive wine list procured by a very experienced Sommelier. Or stop in for their vast selection of desserts to enjoy. Their coffee is special as well, a blend of two coffee beans that is smooth and silky to the taste.
Yet there is more on offer to Styl & Interier. If you have a busy day ahead or planning a party at home Styl & Interier can be of assistance to you. Many of the menu items may be arranged for take away, specifically breads, salads, soups and even cookies are easy to package up to carry home. Cakes for a special event can be ordered up to 3 days prior to the event. If you need a cake the same day, you can easily purchase a prepared cake directly from the café.

New Year’s Day Breakfast – 1 January 2020. A very special breakfast menu to kick off the New Year in true Styl & Interier tradition.
