According to historical records the tradition of the St. Matthew’s Spring Fair (Matějská pouť) began in 1595.  It is said it was not only the first Spring Fair in Prague but in the whole of Europe.  In the beginning, the fair took place in different parts of Prague due to pilgrimages to churches during the Feast of St. Matthew on March 24.  In 1963 the fair was moved to the Prague Exhibition Grounds (Výstaviště Holešovice) and takes place there to this day.  What better way to spend a cold day with your family than to enjoy the wonderful carnival atmosphere around the extensive grounds, getting on the rides and eating cotton candy and all the fun carnival foods you can imagine!
