Bunker Hanička in Orlické hory

About 3 hours east of Prague are the Orlické hory (or Eagle Mountains) located on the border with Poland and most of the area is a designated protected landscape area. The highest point is Velká Deštná (1115 m).

This area is great for walking, hiking, biking and history of course!

Whichever method you choose, go to the fortress “Hanička”. This bunker was built in the period before the second world war when the line of fortification along the Czechoslovakia border was being built. Out of the planned 30,000 bunkers only 10,000 were built before the Munich agreement gave the borders (Sudeten) to Hitler’s Germany. Although the forest is beautiful, you will come across many other photogenic bunkers on your walk to the big one. “Hanička” is strongly recommended to appreciate the extent of this huge project. Most of this specific structure is hidden underground and the tour takes about an hour and is and is cold inside– so take a jacket.

Activity Level: Depending on your choice of transportation this area is good for all fitness levels.
