A fun ritual celebrating the end of winter and the coming of spring, the night of the burning of the witches is a long-standing tradition in Europe believed to come from pagan times. As the witches are said to be strongest on the night of April 30, the tradition is to burn their effigies in a huge bonfire, sing, drink and dance around the fire. People dress up as witches and warlocks in costumes, parade around the city and take their own little sausages to cook in the bonfires.

To join the fun, look for posters and articles about parades and celebrations in parks all around the city (Ladronka, Kampa, Petrin Hill, Žluté lázně to name a few).
