To celebrate our wonderful, unique and diverse membership, IWAP is profiling one member each month. We’re asking members the same questions that will hopefully let us – and you – get to know them better. Each month we will profile a different member, selected at random, with the answers they provided along with their photo. Fernanda Escobar is April’s selection.

Where are you from?

Whilst born in beautiful Mexico, I have lived in Europe for more than 20 years now. Two years and a half in England,18 years in Spain and now almost four years in Prague.

What brought you to Prague?

We moved to Prague from Madrid with my daughter, our Mexican chihuahua and Papito the parrot in July 2014 as my husband works for the steel industry in the Czech Republic.

What are your hobbies and interests?

I enjoy reading historical novels and I have a deep interest in symbology and esoterism. In Prague, I acquired the good habit of yoga and I enjoy learning Czech.

What are your favorite things to do in Prague? What surprised you the most about Prague?

A stroll in Malá strana in the evening with our dog Merlin, when all the tourists have gone. Prague surprised me by its permanent mystery, its ambiguity, and its fascinating beauty. As the writer, Angelo Ripellino said in his “Magic Prague” book: “The city of the Vltava is as much a state of mind as a physical location”.

What is your favorite aspect of being an IWAP member?

When I arrived in Prague, a nice Italian lady who was going back to Rome, told me I should join IWAP straight away. I am forever grateful as I found and keep finding in IWAP friendship and beautiful personal stories.

What is your biggest goal for 2018?

To be able to take my humble practical Czech to a more abstract level…well maybe for 2020…

Anything extra you would like to add?

Thank you IWAP, you have made all the difference…
